Relaxing, delicious, unique—“The Fish Trail”! We invite you to Dreverna, a unique village on the Lithuanian coast, where nature has created ideal conditions for life and fishing traditions.
At the ethnographic homestead of boatbuilder Jonas Gižas, you’ll be greeted by the “Žvejytės” ensemble from Šišionys. You’ll dance in circles, learn words from the Lithuanian dialect, and be introduced to local folklore in the program “I’m Going Fishing.” You’ll discover which local fish the fishermen called “birfiše,” “birškiu,” “yle,” “lasose,” or “kvape,” and you’ll even find out what the word “pūkis” means in the Pamario region’s anthem “Stinta-pūkis.” It’s not a cat, but a fish from the Curonian Lagoon—the pūgžlys!
You’ll get to know the history and culture of the Pamario region on the tour “A Stroll Through Dreverna with a Curonian.” The guide will reveal what the locals called the Prussian Sea and what the legend of Dreverna tells us, what makes the construction of fishing boats in the Curonian Spit region unique, what makes the Kuršiai people special, and how the vast fleet of sailboats in the Curonian Lagoon was managed. You’ll learn about the old fishing traditions and why fishermen had to hoist flags at the top of their sailboat masts. That’s how you’ll unlock the secret of the weather vanes!
At the “Dreverna” restaurant in the Dreverna Small Boat Harbor, you’ll enjoy a dessert from Lithuania Minor—a gliumzinis (curd) cake and kafija (a chicory drink)—and sample fish soup or the traditional pike patties beloved by the people of Dreverna.
From the observation tower (15 m), you’ll take in the surroundings of Dreverna and the Nagliai Nature Reserve just as the giants once did, and then set sail—cruising across the Curonian Lagoon aboard the impressive historic sailing ship “Dreverna” (2 hours).
At the “Memel Wine” winery, you’ll taste the exceptional “Memel Wine” family’s wines made from quinces, gooseberries, black currants, and raspberries. This wine is named after the city of Memel and is produced according to an old recipe passed down from grandparents. It is said that this recipe has been passed down from generation to generation and dates back as far as the Teutonic Knights era. Years of experience in winemaking and a passion for the craft have resulted in a unique wine renowned for its excellent taste and aroma.
