Embark on a journey through a unique natural oasis—the “Bird Trails”—leading to the Tyrų Marsh in the Kliošiai Landscape Reserve. Here you’ll feel a sense of peace, hear birdsong, and see nature as it truly is—alive and breathing.
From April 1 to August 31, access to the reserves is restricted, but this educational trail offers the opportunity to explore the environment safely and responsibly, without disturbing its fragile ecosystem.
Your journey will begin at the Dreverna small-boat harbor. The trail then leads through the village of Dreverna, stretching along the embankment to the “Strykis” farmstead. Turning onto the Tyrų Walking Trail, you’ll walk along the King William Canal, venture into an ancient forest, pass through a raised bog, and reach the waterlogged coastal meadows. At the end of the trail, an observation tower awaits you, offering a breathtaking panorama—the Curonian Lagoon and, in the distance, the Dead Dunes of the Nagliai Nature Reserve on the Curonian Spit.
As you travel along this route, you’ll visit three different ecosystems—a forest, a marsh, and a meadow—hear the calls of birds native to the coastal region, and become one with the rhythm of nature. When you see a sign with a bird illustration, scan the QR code to learn more about that bird. Download the free “Merlin Bird ID” app to your smartphone—it will help you identify birds by their songs, both on this trail and elsewhere in nature.
The nature trail to Tyrų Marsh is 14 km long (round trip). This route is suitable for hikers and the whole family, but before setting out, be sure to wear comfortable, waterproof shoes and follow the directional signs.
