In 1928, a windmill-powered pumping station was built near the Brukšvų meadow, next to the fifth Jokšų Bridge over the canal.
“I’ve remained connected to this landscape ever since. I was there when the windmill, designed to drain the meadows, was built in 1928. It was a 25-meter-tall structure manufactured by the Holstein-Heide company. The wind vane was six meters long. In total, the wind turbine had a diameter of twelve meters. The screw that drew water from the meadows was six meters long and one and a half meters in diameter. For a long time, I looked after the Brukšvų Meadows Pumping Station.” (From the memoirs of Martynas Padagas)
