An old fishing village, first mentioned in 1253, is located on the shore of the Curonian Lagoon at the mouth of the Dreverna River. If one could travel back in time to the village as it was then, he or she would be stunned by the smell of fish and the number of people. Today, Dreverna is becoming increasingly popular and modern but retains the old structure of a Pomeranian fishing village, so its spirit can still be felt.
When visiting the restored ethnographic homestead (p. 19) of Jonas Gižas (1867–1940), who was a famous builder of Curonian Lagoon sailing ships in the 20th century, and exploring the Opening the Shipbuilder’s Chest museum exhibition installed there, you can experience a journey through time by getting acquainted with the shipbuilding and fishing traditions of the region or colouring in the most vivid and unique symbol of this region – the Dreverna weather vane. The homestead also organises an entertaining educational programme and the FISH WAY culinary cruise, during which you will not only have a unique Pomeranian experience but also the opportunity to sail around the Curonian Lagoon on the Dreverna, an ancient Curonian sailing ship.
The modern small ship port offers a wide variety of services to make your stay as memorable as possible. These include a 4-star camping site; Avilys modular rooms; a Deverna restaurant offering European cuisine; the rental of boats, water bikes or paddle boards; spa services; seasonal heated outdoor and indoor swimming pools; playgrounds for children; and many other services. Many are also impressed by the view of the Nagliai Nature Reserve and the Curonian Lagoon, not to mention when there are dozens of flying power kites, from the 15-metre-high observation tower, and, during the summer season, there is no shortage of passengers on the regular direct high-speed ferry via the Dreverna-Juodkrantė-Dreverna route, connecting the shores of the Curonian Lagoon.
