The pilot Steponas Darius and his colleague Stasys Girėnas are best known for their flight over the Atlantic Ocean, which, unfortunately, resulted in their death in 1933. However, another lesser-known fact is that Steponas Darius took part in Klaipėda Revolt in January 1923. He was a deputy commander of the 3rd group. On 9 January, after taking over Šilutė, Darius became a unit commander and, on 15 January 1923, a group of 75 rebels under his lead, arrived in Klaipėda, already taken over by the rebellion.
