10. Great Reed Warbler

Size: Starling-sized (L16‒20cm)

Life expectancy: 8‒10 years

Distribution: 40 000‒80 000 pairs

Breeding: Breeds in reedbeds near lakes, rivers, and wetland communities. The nest is built between reeds, 60‒120 cm above the water. The cylinder-shaped nest is made of leaves and stems, reed flowers, plant fluff and cobwebs. The inside is covered with small leaves, fluff, roots, hair and feathers. The nest is built by the female. Most often, the great reed warbler lays 4‒6, rarely 3 eggs. Only the female incubates eggs for 14‒15 days, but both parents feed the young. The young leave the nest after about 12 days.

Appearance: A brown bird with beige breast, white collar, dark legs. With a thrush-like beak and a longer tail.
