Life expectancy: 15‒16 years

Distribution: 10 000‒20 000 pairs

Breeding: Breeds in a variety of wet habitats, from floodplains to upland marshes. The nest is on the ground, next to a clump of vegetation that is partially pulled over the nest. The nest is built by the female. The Common Snipe's nest resembles a plane covered with grass. These birds lay eggs once a season. Usually 4, sometimes 3 eggs are hatched. Only the female is involved in the breeding for about 18‒20 days. Both parents take care of the hatchling. The chicks leave the nest as soon as their fluff dries off, getting food from their parents' beaks. They start flying after 19-20 days.

Appearance: A bird with a disproportionately long bill and short yellowish legs. It has a white belly. Sides of the body with dark stripes. Back with yellowish longitudinal stripes. Double dark bands from the bill to the top of its head.
