Lifespan: 15-17 years
Breeding: Breeds in forests, parks and even tree alleys. Can build a nest on an old nest of another bird. The nest is a thin but dense patchwork of twigs constructed by both members of the pair. Breeds up to three times per season, usually laying 2 and, sometimes, 1 egg. The incubation period with participation of both parents lasts about 17 days. The young begin to fly after 29-35 days.
Appearance: The largest representative of pigeons in Lithuania. The body is reddish brown, the back, wings and head are bluish-grey with black tips and a black stripe on the tail. When flying, white crescents on the neck and wings are clearly visible. Legs are pink, toes not webbed.
