Breeding: Eggs are laid from late March or early April in Western Europe, and somewhat later in Central Europe. In Cyprus, breeding takes place from early April to May, and in European Russia only in the second half of May. Polygyny occurs in some populations. The male builds the nest but the female chooses the most suitable one and adds lining. The nest is dome-shaped with a side entrance. It can be built in vegetation, cavities, crevices, or even unusual places, such as the pocket of a hanging coat.
Appearance: A very small, short-tailed bird. It carries its tail curled up. The upper part of the body of both the male and the female is brown with dark streaks, the eyebrow is light. The underside is greyish with a dark transverse pattern. The beak is grey, the legs are brownish-pink.
