Educational programs at Agluonėnai Ethnographic Homestead

Facilities

During the education, participants are introduced to the works of authors from Lithuania Minor. They have the opportunity to try their hand at watercolour casting.

Watercolour will be cast according to the "wet on wet" principle, based on the work of the authors of Lithuania Minor (a fairy tale, a fairy tale, a fairy tale).

The education is designed for both children and adults. The old lanterns, from the balana to the primus lamp, are demonstrated and the story of the lanterns used in Lithuania Minor is told. In the second part of the education (on request) we make our own lantern, during the Christmas period we make a Christmas toy from natural materials.

During the education, preschoolers are introduced to the exhibits of the museum, learn the names of the exhibits, find out about their purpose and learn new riddles.

During the education, hidden toys are searched for, and at the end a treasure is found.

The games played in the cloister include old Lithuanian games, games from Lithuania Minor and games with natural tools. Part of the programme is based on Waldorf pedagogy, which has a therapeutic effect. Natural tools from nature are used.

During the educational activity, a Lithuanian fairy tale is followed, during which pupils feel like the characters of the fairy tale, they have to pass tests, make a talisman, taste a drink of strength, and solve riddles. The story is followed by a song and games.

Children make a talisman and learn about Baltic symbols and their meanings. By taking part in the fairy tale, they develop rhythmic skills, attentiveness, get acquainted with folklore and ancient games. In warm weather, they also develop health competences (outdoor challenge trail).

Each pupil who takes part in the educational activity takes with him or her not only a talisman of his or her own making, but also a wealth of knowledge and a good mood.  

An ancient method of knitting with the fingers that helps develop fine motor skills.

In the second part of the education, a selected ancient Lithuanian game is played with schoolchildren, while adults have the opportunity to try spinning in a circle, rope twisting, flaxseed grinding, reading gothic texts, jigsaw puzzles, finger knitting, and the "Touch, Smell, Taste" activity.

This is education for older school-age children and adults. During the education, you will be introduced to the uniqueness of Lithuania Minor, the lifestyle of the Lithuanians, and the origin story of I. Kant. Participants will have the opportunity to try spinning in a circle, rope twisting, flaxseed grinding, reading Prussian texts in Gothic script, writing with a goose feather, knitting with their fingers, and performing the task "Touch, smell, taste". Participants will also have the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of a museum worker and its specifics.

The education will be varied and the participants will not be bored: They will guess the meanings of Lithuanian words, cipher a Gothic text, try to determine the value of the exhibit, search for the exhibit according to the card catalogue, decode the lock according to the questions, where a surprise awaits. Thus, the participants get an unusual insight into the way of life in Lithuania Minor (which is included in the general curriculum of the history subject in grades 9-11), while adults gain new experiences and experiences.

The education is aimed at children (from the third grade upwards) and adults. During the education we get acquainted with the tools used for shearing, combing, spinning and twisting wool. Participants have the opportunity to feed, comb and spin wool. In the second part of the education, a colourful ball for needles or a sponge is spun using wet and dry felting.

The World Tree is the axis of the world, connecting the earth, the heavens and the underworld. The tree connects the living and the dead, the past, the present and the future; it is a symbol of wisdom, mystery and immortality.

It reflects our ancestral perception of the world. The tree, preserved in folk songs and art, is an important part of ancient Lithuanian heritage.

During the education, the participants will hear a story about the representation of the world tree in folk fabric patterns and household utensils. Exhibits and photographs depicting the world tree are shown.

During a practical task, each participant has the opportunity to make a picture or a bookmark from birch bark.

During the education, all the oak trees of the homestead are found, the ancient custom of burial in a tree is discussed, and the trinary structure of the world tree is explained. The centuries-old apple tree of the homestead is discovered and the star in the apple is searched for. The herb garden of Marė (the last owner of the homestead) is introduced, the medicinal properties of herbs are presented, and methods of drying herbs are demonstrated.  The plants and flowers grown in ethnographic gardens and their depiction in textiles, on dowry chests and on the porches are described. Plant species are identified in the museum's exhibits with plant motifs. Children are given the task of finding certain plants in the homestead. At the end of the activity, there will be a game and a herbal tea tasting.

Educational session on how old traditional roofs were covered in Lithuania Minor. You will learn about the tools and principles of roofing and will be given a task pad with a map of houses covered with different roofing materials. Follow the map to find these houses and complete the task.

An education about mills, their most important parts and the history of the Kantvainiai mill. During the education, participants will receive a colourful task book, which they will be able to fill in and draw their own mill after hearing the story about the mills.

45 minutes (45 minutes) Educational activity about the products that mills used to provide. How important the work of the mill is for the bread and other bakery products on our table. What does it mean to "pile", what was used to thresh the grain, what is a harp? Which flour is better?
In part 2 of the education we will make a product from flour.

45 minutes - 45 minutes (45 minutes, 45 minutes, 45 minutes) - a talk about the dowry chests, their contents, their uniqueness, the meaning of the patterns, the colours, the uniqueness of the dowry chests of the ML region and the Samogitian dowry chests. When and according to what traditions the dowry chests were taken out of the bride and groom's house.

Pupils are divided into 4 teams and are asked to be museum workers and assigned 4 different chests, which the museum teams have to describe, examine, measure and then present to everyone.

Making a Christmas toy from natural materials

For: pre-school children, pupils in grade 12.

The participants will learn about the Baltic signs and their meanings, and make an amulet from clay in which they carve their own Baltic symbol.

Duration of the session: 1 hour.

The actor does not have to prepare, rehearse or learn the words in advance. The everyday life of the mill is told, interwoven with legends. The performance is accompanied by special effects, music and tasks. The children perform with puppets handmade by a folk artist and reflecting the early 20th century clothing. The theatre's scenery, a rotating model of Jonas Genis' mill, is the work of modelling teacher P. Sungaila. The theatre itself, decorated by artist Nomeda with colourful wood motifs from around the world and images of the mill landscape, is an engaging experience for children. Through the play, the children not only learn about the specifics of puppet theatre, have the opportunity to improvise, but also learn about the life of the millers and the specifics of the time.
