Lifespan: 9-10 years
Breeding: Breeds in open tree-less habitats, natural meadows, dunes and raised bogs. The nest is a hollow lined with finer herbs and, sometimes, with hair, and situated next to a plant clump. Though often visible, the nest may overgrow with grass during breeding. The nest is built by the female bird. The Eurasian Skylark breeds two or three times per season. It lays 3-4, sometimes 5, and, in exceptional cases, 7 eggs. The incubation period takes about 11 days. Both the male and the female take care of the feeding of the young. The young birds leave the nest in 9-10 days after hatching out when still unable to fly. They acquire good flying skills only after 20 days.
Appearance: Grey-brown body with dark stripes. A short blunt crest on the head, indistinct eyebrows. Bright-coloured legs with long hind claws. A long yellowish bill.
