The western shore of Lake Liepāja in Nīca and Otaņķi parishes is a beautiful and
diverse area rich in natural and cultural heritage. This area is listed as an
internationally important site for birds and has been part of Natura 2000 network
since 2004. A significant number of bird species nest here, with at least 10 protected
species wintering in the area and no fewer than 50 specially protected species
feeding during migration periods.
