The Svencelė swamp falls within the territory of the Svencelė reserve for unique wetland complexes, which stretches through the Klaipėda and Šilutė districts, covering an area of 1,206 hectares.
The reserve was established in 1992 to preserve the Svencelė upland swamp, which is valuable from a botanical and zoological point of view.
Since 2004, the Svencelė swamp has been assigned to the Natura 2000 network to ensure the protection of habitats: degraded upland swamps, natural dystrophic lakes, active upland swamps and swamp forests.
