The cemeteries dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries were separated by the border between East Prussia and the Russian Empire (and later, independent Lithuania). Also, a section of the old border road ran between the cemeteries (it went a little farther to the west of the current Maciuičiai – Pėžaičiai road).
