Museum of Freedom Fights and Exile

Museums

The Museum of Freedom Fights and Exile is situated in Priekulė (Klaipėdos g. 29), within the former German gendarmerie building. The museum honours the Lithuanian nation's struggles for freedom.

The museum's permanent exhibition on exile and resistance showcases authentic artefacts from this tragic period in Lithuania’s history. Among the exhibits are a cross made of bread, handcrafted items sewn and embroidered using fish bones, leather and bast-shoes, as well as various dishes and a collection of copper ores. The basement houses a reconstructed security headquarters prison cell, while the outdoor exhibition features an authentic exile wagon and a recreated partisan bunker.
The museum's collection features photocopies and photographs, original documents, videos, historical research, and other written and visual materials. It holds donated belongings of political prisoners and exiles.
