The entrance to Gargždai from the eastern side is decorated with a 100-ton boulder bearing the inscription ‘Gargždai’. It lies near the Kalniškės (Gargždai) Hillfort, at the crossroads of the Dauparai-Gargždai-Vēžaičiai and Macuičiai-Pėžaičiai roads.
This boulder is an object of the natural landscape and geological heritage site under the protection of the State since 2016. Boulder height: 3.10 metres; boulder length: 5.05 metres; boulder width: 4.00 metres.
The boulder was dug up by reclamation workers in the nearby village of Gerduvėnai and dragged to the crossroads. It remained there for 15 years. In 2003, on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the town of Gargždai, the boulder was placed on poured concrete foundations.
