Antique plant garden, Dreverna

Nature

The garden of ancient plants in Dreverna is open all year round! Here, you can walk, rest or simply admire your surroundings. The garden of ancient plants, which has no analogues in Lithuania and neighbouring countries, is home to about a hundred different types of ancient plants. Edita Nurmi, the creator and re-constructor of the garden, collected the seeds of the plants, dating from the Neolithic period to the 12th century, from the seed funds and botanical gardens of all the countries situated around the Baltic Sea. The garden has a unique, ship-shaped form (ship-craftsman: Darius Petkevičius), with a narrow decorative fence representing the sides of a ship and impressive sterns decorated with wooden sculptures. In the centre of the garden, there is a recreation area for community gatherings, educational activities, classes, artist workshops, etc. Students and seniors, organisations and companies can even help tend to the garden beds. All visitors will be able to admire and gain knowledge about the plants, as their detailed descriptions with QR codes are given in Lithuanian and as many as seven other languages (English, German, Ukrainian, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and Russian), as well as in Braille.

The garden of ancient plants in Dreverna harmoniously complements the complex of the Lamata Craftsmen Guild, which consists of the already functioning Education House and the soon-to-be-opened Crafts Centre.
