Steponas Darius Birthplace Museum

Museums

The Steponas Darius Birthplace Museum is a place where visitors can get to know one of the most prominent figures in Lithuanian aviation history up close. Here, the story of the pilot’s childhood intersects with Lithuanian statehood, aviation, sports, and the living cultural heritage of the region.

The birthplace is a branch of the Lithuanian Aviation Museum, so its activities are inextricably linked to the preservation, research, and presentation of national aviation history. Together with its partners, the museum is responsible not only for the exhibition but also for preserving the historic building, the memorial park, and the cultural value of this site.

WHY IS IT WORTH A VISIT?

Steponas Darius is often remembered as one of the pilots of the “Lituanica.” However, his story is much broader. He was an athlete, a soldier, a pilot, a public figure, and an active participant in the life of his time. His life story intertwines sports, military service, aviation, foreign innovations brought to Lithuania, love for his family, civic engagement, and the determination to pursue what seemed almost impossible. His hometown preserves his historical legacy by cherishing local traditions, culture, and heritage.

By analyzing the museum’s exhibits and the facts of the flight, participants will seek answers to questions that continue to spark interest: Why did the “Lituanica” choose this particular route?
