Program for children and adults
The educational program "Illegal Fish Market – Strykis" invites you on a unique journey through the history and fishing traditions of the Curonian Lagoon. This activity opens the door to the past, where fishermen lived and prospered for centuries, and where the Dreverna area became an important part of the fishing community. One of the most important historical points is the life of the Strykis market, which operated for almost 300 years and attracted many fishermen and merchants. During the educational program, you will delve into local traditions, cultural heritage, the unique history of the fishing community, and the King William Canal.
Participants will visit a modern fish farm where they raise alpine salmon. Here, you will learn about modern fish farming and how fish, from fry to fully grown, end up on our tables today. In a specially equipped educational space, a technologist will give a detailed and interesting presentation on the farm's operations and the technological solutions used by modern fishermen to raise fish sustainably and efficiently.
You will also learn about the fish farming cycle, nutrition, care, and ecological significance. Attention will be drawn to the importance of sustainable fishing – how this activity can contribute to the protection of natural resources and ensure a high-quality, healthy product.
