Facilities

The educational activity is intended for junior and senior schoolchildren and adults (various programme options have been prepared to suit the age of participants). Participants are presented with visual information material (photos, film excerpts, diagrams, objects) about the heroic flight of pilots S. Darius and S. Girėnas across the Atlantic Ocean, which made Lithuania's name famous throughout the world. The aim of this educational programme is to encourage participants to take an interest in the history of their nation, to develop patriotism and national pride. The birthplace of S. Darius at the LAM has an exposition dedicated to S. Darius and S. Girėnas, which recalls the heroic march of our heroes. The personal furniture, documents and a model of the Lituanica aircraft on display tell the story of the tragic end of the Lituanica raid and the commemoration of the pilots.

The educational activity "One Across the Atlantic" is intended for junior and senior schoolchildren and adults to learn about the second Lithuanian transatlantic pilot Feliks Vaitkus, who flew alone across the Atlantic Ocean in 1935. Feliksas Vaitkus flew 5100 kilometres in 22 hours 30 minutes, the only non-stop flight across the Atlantic in 1935, and the sixth pilot in aviation history to fly solo across the Atlantic. This is a significant event in the history of world aviation and a great example of patriotism, as well as an illustration of the application of physics and other exact sciences to new modes of transport. During the session, participants will be provided with visual reference material (the documentary "One Across the Atlantic"). The aim of the educational session is to encourage participants to take an interest in the history of their own nation, to foster patriotism and national pride, and to learn how to apply the knowledge they have acquired in physics, geography and other subjects at school.

The aim of the lesson is to introduce pre-school and younger school-age children to the history of Lithuanian aviation, aircraft flown by Lithuanians in different periods of time, and the most famous pilots of our country. The LAM S. Darius Birthplace exhibits various aviation equipment: gliders, model airplanes, etc. During the lesson, memory is exercised by recreating the images seen through drawing. The works created express the instantaneous relationship between the child and the museum exhibition. This activity helps to promote and glorify historical memory - the memory of the aviators who made our country famous. Participants of the educational programme can mould an aeroplane out of plasticine or draw their favourite aircraft or other exhibits.

The activity is aimed at introducing children to fire and its dangers, as well as how to handle fire safely at home and in nature. We have prepared methodological material for teachers to help them to develop the right initial fire safety skills. The technical and didactic tools used during the educational session help children to better retain the knowledge taught. The aim of the session is to develop a correct understanding of the benefits and dangers of fire, to teach children to handle fire and potential sources of fire safely and to act appropriately in the event of an accident and to provide assistance to the victims by means of a variety of simple and practical tasks. This educational programme consists of four parts, aimed at different age groups.
