The education program covers all human senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Each sense is assigned a practical task that encourages participants to empathize with the corresponding sense. After each task, the experience gained and the sensations experienced are discussed together. The education program develops cognitive and social skills.
The education program may involve smelling and/or tasting food products, so it is necessary to inform participants about possible allergic reactions.
The educational topics are very broad, and you can choose your own topic. After familiarizing themselves with general information about the chosen topic, children will apply the knowledge they have gained in a fun game with robots – ladybugs, whose movements must be programmed by the participants themselves. During the educational program, cognitive, communication, digital, cultural, and social competencies are improved.
During the educational session, a quiz is held in which children answer questions about books and writers. All answers are discussed, and more detailed information and interesting facts are provided. The quiz questions are appropriate for the age of the students, and the authors and books are selected from the list of recommended reading for the relevant grade and younger age groups. Students develop cognitive, communication, cultural, and social skills.
This educational program uses elements of dramatic storytelling, allowing students to get to know the heroes of well-known fairy tales from a different angle. Stories that have been heard many times come to life in a new way, and students improve their cognitive, communication, cultural, and social skills.
In these creative workshops, children make paper dividers from various paper product scraps and remnants and make knitting needles from knitting yarn. Imagination is developed, creativity is encouraged, and conservation and sustainability are emphasized.
The activity is designed to be fun and informative. In a three-stage quiz, students learn about the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, test their musical knowledge by searching for songs based on selected themes, and try to identify songs from music videos.
This activity is for children who are visiting the library for the first time or who want to get to know the library services and facilities better. There may be a chance to read the books together and/or do creative activities together.
During the orienteering competition, participants are divided into teams and search for their way not in a dense forest, but in a cosy children's and youth library. They are given tasks to complete and navigate their way through the library's premises, trying to discover and understand clues, complete tasks and overcome all the literary challenges. The tasks are age-appropriate and the authors and books are chosen according to a list of recommended books to read for the appropriate grade and younger age.
The aim of the activity is to break down myths and stereotypes about working in a library and to find out what professions are available in the library. The informative presentation is complemented by an active game and discussion.
Participants must bring a piece of textile clothing (a bag, handbag, backpack, etc.) or an item of clothing (a T-shirt, jumper, trousers, etc.) to the session. The session consists of two parts, which are adapted to different age groups. In the theoretical part, using digital technologies, students will interactively learn/remember about the importance of Lithuania's integration into the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the life of every citizen, as well as the principles of sustainability. In the practical part, students will learn how to update their wardrobe using textile dyes, stamps and/or stencils created by educators or themselves from secondary raw materials, and will create their own design projects by encouraging children's imagination and creativity. At the end of the class, we will summarize the material and work in a fun and playful way – we will offer students an emotional reflection. Once the textile paint has dried, the newly decorated clothing item or garment will be ironed to set the paint. Students will take their finished products home and use them as intended.
The activity consists of two parts, which are adapted to different age groups: in the theoretical part, using digital technologies, students will interactively learn/remember the tradition and symbolism of song and dance festivals, the significance and importance of their inclusion in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and the principles of sustainability – reduce, reuse, recycle, and do not harm nature. In the practical part, students will learn about: thermal printing – a long-lasting method of printing on various textile products, a program for designing various inscriptions and symbols, and a plotter (cutter) – a device used to cut out the designed print. During the class, emphasis will be placed on the need to use all materials responsibly, trying to throw away as little as possible and reuse as much as possible. On the cotton T-shirts provided, students will create their own national symbol or decorate the T-shirts with national patterns by arranging small pieces of thermal film, which will then be pressed with a heat press. At the end of the activity, we will summarize the material and work learned in a fun and playful way – we will offer students an emotional reflection. Students will take the T-shirts they have created home with them.
During the class, participants are invited to learn about one of the most interesting aspects of cultural heritage – bookbinding and the principles of sustainability, creating a safe environment and using resources responsibly. The educational program consists of two parts: in the theoretical part, using slides and an informative film, students are introduced to the development of the craft of bookbinding, tools, materials, and the stages of book creation; the principles of sustainability are presented – reduce, reuse, recycle, do not harm nature. In the practical part, students will learn how to bind and design a book and create an eco-friendly notebook. Recycled and eco-friendly paper is used for the notebook, and sustainable materials are used to design the cover. Students create it using the information they have heard, drawing on their imagination and creativity. The children take the eco-friendly notebooks they have created home with them.
The activity consists of two parts, which are adapted to different age groups: in the theoretical part, using digital technologies and online tools, students will interactively learn/review national symbols and sustainability principles – reduce, reuse, recycle, and protect nature. In the practical part, students will learn about thermal printing – one of the most popular and oldest printing methods on T-shirts, bags, and other textiles. This printing method is used to print logos and various inscriptions on textiles, and it is a very high-quality and durable printing method. We will use thermal film printing to transfer simple logos, symbols, various words, sentences, or vector graphics elements onto canvas bags sewn by the library's bookbinders.
Students will learn how to use the DRAWCUT LITE program, which is used to design various inscriptions and symbols; those who wish will have the opportunity to create their own letters, symbols, and numbers. The printout designed in the program is cut out using an advanced computer-controlled blade rotation plotter (cutter). Using their imagination and creativity, and symbols, letters, and numbers prepared by the educator using a plotter from film in the colors of the Lithuanian flag, students will create a design on a canvas bag, which will be pressed with a heat press. At the end of the activity, we will summarize the material and work learned in a fun and playful way – we will offer students a three-color reflection. Students will take home the eco-friendly canvas bag they have created, which is ideal for storing books and other items.
During each literary-educational activity at the library, a new literary work of various styles and genres will be read, selected according to the age group. After listening to the story, the students will discuss the information they have heard with the help of the educator, raise questions that concern them, and look for answers. They will individually choose a character from the work to depict on a badge (pin, magnet, or mirror type). The students will be given badge-shaped pieces of paper on which they will independently draw the character they have chosen using various drawing tools: pencils, crayons, markers, watercolors. The educator will make the desired badges using a badge-making machine. Each student will present their created character badge to their friends and take it home.
