The Bārta River flows through Latvia and Lithuania (in Lithuanian: Bartuva). It
originates in the Žemaitija Upland in the Plungė District and flows into the southern
end of Lake Liepāja. The river's lower course has been straightened and confined
within dikes. It is known for its picturesque landscapes and rich biodiversity. Along its
banks, one can find forests and meadows, providing habitats for numerous fish and
bird species. In spring and autumn, the Bārta River serves as a migration stopover
for waterfowl and songbirds. During the summer season, it is possible to observe
nesting birds in the river's surroundings. Canoeing on the Bārta River offers a chance
to get closer to bird habitats without disturbing the natural environment. This quiet
and slow mode of travel is ideal for observing the area's diverse wildlife.
