Project budget: €394,249.38, of which €315,399.50 from the EU Structural Funds.
Project funding sources: project partners' funds and the European Regional Development Fund.
The project's objective is to create a new, sustainable and attractive international tourism offer by developing a cross-border bird observation network in Liepaja, in the regions of South Kurzeme (Latvia) and Klaipėda (Lithuania). This project will connect 18 bird watching sites and will purchase innovative bird watching equipment. The project partners will solve common problems such as reducing seasonality, attracting foreign tourists, increasing the number of overnight stays in accommodation facilities, involving local residents in bird watching and economic growth in the regions.
Innovative solutions will be used to create educational and sustainable tourism offers, which will be supplemented by promotional activities designed to strengthen the project results. The "BIRDIE" project will not only promote sustainable tourism and foster a deeper understanding of nature, but will also bring economic benefits and ensure sustainable growth in all border regions of Latvia and Lithuania.
