4. Priekulė Church of St. Anthony of Padua

The Roman Catholic community of Priekulės was established between the wars, when Klaipėda region was annexed to Lithuania. Until the mid-1940s, the Catholics of Priekule did not have their own house of worship. Services were held in the hall of the Evangelical Lutheran parish in Priekule (now Pamarių str. 8) and in other buildings. The present brick church was built in 1938 under the care of priest Nikodemos Petkus. The church is rectangular, single-sided, with an apse. There are 3 altars. The presbytery has an ornate neo-Gothic wooden high altar with a painting of the crucifixion of Jesus by the Italian artist Rosini and statues (St Francis and St Clara). The bell tower is at the top of the church tower.
